Design Philosophy
How This Journey Was Crafted
Xinjiang is the heart of Central Asia and the vital gateway through which Buddhism spread eastward. The Tianshan Mountains stretch from west to east, dividing this vast land into its northern and southern flanks. The Pamir Plateau is not only a natural barrier, but also nurtures oasis after oasis across southern Xinjiang with its glacial meltwater—this is the thoroughfare of the Silk Road, the pilgrimage path of Xuanzang journeying west for Buddhist scriptures, and the trail of faith along which Muslim sages made their hajj to Mecca.
The Kunlun Mountains run eastward from Xinjiang into the vast highlands of Qinghai. The broad pastures of northern Xinjiang, meanwhile, are the ancestral homeland of the Mongolian, Kazakh, and Tuvan peoples. For thousands of years, Han, Uyghur, Kazakh, Mongolian, Hui, and many other peoples have met, fused, and influenced one another on this land, giving rise to a uniquely rich and colorful culture.
On this itinerary we set out from Urumqi, travel southward along the pastures of northern Xinjiang from north to south, and penetrate deep into the heart of the Tianshan to seek out those hidden secrets of Xinjiang that remain untouched by the crowds. This is more than a journey through natural scenery—it is a dialogue between civilizations across time and space. The eastward spread of Buddhism, the footsteps of Xuanzang, the faith of Muslims, and the migrations of nomadic peoples have all left their profound mark upon this land.
Across this land that covers one-sixth of China, you will be conquered by the endless mountain ranges, boundless pastures, and a gloriously diverse culture.

S101 Scenic Highway: Known as the "corridor of the Tianshan geographical scenery," where Danxia landforms, canyons, grasslands, and snow-capped mountains alternate along the way—a most beautiful Xinjiang road that remains underestimated.

Sayram Lake: The "last teardrop of the Atlantic," its waters a sapphire blue beneath the sky; lakeside pastures and snow peaks reflect one another, making it the highest and largest alpine lake in Xinjiang.

Kazanqi Folk Quarter: The most Uyghur-flavored blue old street in Yining, where you ride through by carriage and visit local families, experiencing Uyghur architectural art and daily life firsthand.

Shata Ancient Trail and Muzart Glacier: Xuanzang once passed this way on his westward journey; the ancient trail, glacier, snow peaks, and rivers compose a grand epic tableau—a paradise for hikers and photographers.

Full Crossing of the Duku Highway: Hailed as "China's most beautiful road," where you pass through four seasons in a single day and the weather changes within ten li; from the northern pastures to the southern canyons, it is a distillation of Xinjiang's diverse geography.

Kashgar Old City and Ethnic Diversity: Stroll through the thousand-year-old Kashgar old town, visit the Gaotai residences, the Id Kah Mosque, and the Fragrant Concubine Garden, and feel the southern Xinjiang charm where the Uyghur, Tajik, and Kyrgyz peoples blend together.

Day 1
Beijing – Urumqi 北京 – 乌鲁木齐
Today fly to Urumqi; upon arrival a transfer takes you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free, and you may visit the International Grand Bazaar, the concentrated showcase of Xinjiang's ethnic flavor.

Day 2
Urumqi – S101 Scenic Highway – Kuitun 乌鲁木齐 – S101景观公路 – 奎屯
After breakfast at the hotel, drive along the S101 Scenic Highway all the way (choosing the expressway would reach Kuitun more quickly), visiting the Dushanzi Grand Canyon along the way.

Day 3
Kuitun – Sayram Lake – Krug Camp 奎屯 – 赛里木湖 – 克鲁格营地
After breakfast head to Sayram Lake, circle the lake to admire sights including the West Sea Grassland and the Dianjiang Terrace, then enjoy afternoon tea by the lakeshore. Afterwards proceed to Krug Camp to check in.

Day 4
Full Day at Krug Camp 克鲁格营地全天游玩
Spend the whole day enjoying the camp, with forest trekking, wild animal encounters, an outdoor hotpot, grassland archery, and horse riding, plus ethnic singing and dancing performances to join in.

Day 5
Krug – Guozigou – Yining 克鲁格 – 途径果子沟 – 伊宁
Depart after breakfast, passing through Guozigou to admire the Guozigou Bridge. Upon arriving in Yining, a Kazanqi photo shoot is recommended; in the evening check into the Yining hotel.

Day 6
Full Day in Yining 伊宁全天游玩
Spend the whole day exploring Yining, enjoying a horse-carriage ride and family visits in Kazanqi, then heading to Liuxing Street in the afternoon.

After breakfast visit the Kalajun Grassland and Kuokesu Canyon, then head to the Kalajun camp to check in and rest.

Nalati – Duku Highway – Tangbula 那拉提 – 独库公路 – 唐布拉
After breakfast set out on the Duku Highway to admire the snow-capped peaks and canyons along the way; on arrival at Tangbula, check into the hotel and rest.

Tangbula – Middle Section of Duku Highway – Bayanbulak 唐布拉 – 独库公路中段 – 巴音布鲁克
After breakfast take the middle section of the Duku Highway to Bayanbulak, tour it by shuttle bus, and admire the Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns and the Swan Lake.

Bayanbulak – Southern Section of Duku – Kuqa 巴音布鲁克 – 独库南段 – 库车

Kuqa – Aksu 库车 – 阿克苏

Kashgar – Beijing 喀什 – 北京
(If it falls on a Sunday, you may first visit the Animal Bazaar—Xinjiang's largest livestock market, where the traditional "deal in the sleeve" still takes place.) Today the itinerary concludes; a private transfer takes you to the airport for the flight back to Beijing according to the flight schedule.
