Design Philosophy
How This Journey Was Crafted
The Silk Road is the greatest cultural artery in human history. It connected Eastern and Western civilizations, giving birth to Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism; it gathered the great civilizations of China, India, Greece, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. Yet its lifeline has always run through Gansu province in China — the Hexi Corridor. From here, Chinese silk, porcelain, papermaking, and gunpowder spread to the world; from here, Buddhist art traveled eastward, profoundly reshaping the spiritual world of China and East Asia. We follow in the footsteps of the great translator Kumarajiva, and pay tribute to the perseverance of Xuanzang's journey west.

Full Itinerary
Day 1
Beijing–Lanzhou 北京–兰州
Arrive in Lanzhou and check into the hotel. In the evening, enjoy hand-grabbed lamb in the old Muslim quarter and experience the atmosphere of multi-ethnic cultural fusion.

Day 2
Lanzhou–Bingling Temple–Xiahe 兰州–炳灵寺–夏河
Travel by coach to Bingling Temple in the morning to admire the cave art and Yellow River scenery. In the afternoon, head to Xiahe and visit the exterior of Labrang Monastery upon arrival.

Day 3
Xiahe · Labrang Monastery 夏河·拉卜楞寺
A full day exploring Labrang Monastery, visiting the Medical College, Butter Lamp Hall, and the Geshe College, experiencing the daily practice of Tibetan Buddhism beside the prayer wheels.

Day 4
Xiahe–Langmusi 夏河–郎木寺
Depart from Xiahe to Langmusi, arriving at this border town on the White Dragon River at dusk, experiencing the unique coexistence of Tibetan, Hui, and Mongolian cultures.

Day 5
Langmusi–Lanzhou–Zhangye 郎木寺–兰州–张掖
Leave Langmusi in the morning, transit through Lanzhou, and arrive in Zhangye in the afternoon to visit the Western Xia reclining Buddha at Grand Buddha Temple.

Day 6
Zhangye–Jiayuguan 张掖–嘉峪关
Tour the Zhangye Rainbow Mountains in the morning, then drive to Jiayuguan in the afternoon to visit the magnificent pass tower of the first frontier fortress of the Great Wall.

Day 7
Jiayuguan–Guazhou 嘉峪关–瓜州
Visit the inner city of Jiayuguan and Great Wall ruins in the morning, then head to Guazhou in the afternoon, passing by Yumenguan to gaze upon the remnants of the Han Great Wall.

Day 8
Guazhou–Dunhuang 瓜州–敦煌
Depart from Guazhou to Dunhuang in the morning, and visit the Mogao Grottoes in the afternoon to admire the millennium-old Buddhist art treasures.

Day 9
Dunhuang 敦煌
A full day of Mogao Grottoes mural replication experience, visiting the Crescent Spring at Mingsha Mountain, and feeling the vastness of the ancient Silk Road at the edge of the desert.

Day 10
Dunhuang 敦煌
Visit Yulin Caves and Western Thousand Buddha Caves in the morning, enjoy free time in downtown Dunhuang in the afternoon, and watch the "Echoes of Dunhuang" performance in the evening.

Day 11
Dunhuang–Departure 敦煌–返程
Breakfast followed by airport transfer, return to Beijing, concluding the 10-night 11-day Hexi Corridor humanities and arts journey.
